May is Mental Health Awareness month! We can all admit that 2020, and now 2021, has been incredibly difficult and unprecedented. We all are certainly not alone in the struggles the pandemic has caused. Taking care of one’s mental health while in quarantine was incredibly difficult. Through this time, we have shared a common goal: becoming normal again. But how does someone “become normal” again? Is there really such a thing? Keep in mind that we are all diverse in our needs. Some of us need far more human interaction than others, especially at the expense of their mental health and wellbeing. So, what now? How do we gain some type of normalcy, especially pertaining to our mental health? Now that we are able to, let’s go outside! Let’s enjoy the sunshine by going on a run, walking our pets, or visiting a park or trail. Show off your quarantine hobbies to friends and family! Meet someone for coffee (if vaccinated or while wearing a mask). Pretend you are a tourist in your own town! Visit new local shops and restaurants and show your support! At the end of the day, most of us need so much more than pick-me-ups like exercise and sunshine. A mental health professional can help you and your loved ones through depression, grief, trauma, anxiety, and so much more. If you or someone you know is suffering from any mental health issues, please reach out to your local counseling agency. We all need help sometimes, more so now. Please know that you are not alone and that everyone could benefit from some sort of mental health therapy! Happy Mental Health Awareness month and remember to take care of your mind!
